I currently have an authorized referral from my PCP, but the outside provider is referring me to someone else. Does my authorized referral still apply?
Yes, as long as the informal referral is related to the same diagnosis on your original Ashe referral. In some cases another referral is required due to medical need of a different service. For example, you have a broken foot and are referred to UCLA Orthopedics for surgery. But the surgeon recommends that you get physical therapy treatment. This need for physical therapy requires another Ashe referral because a different service is needed. Then, you may be referred to an outside physical therapy clinic or one that already exists in-house at The Ashe Center. There are instances when a separate referral is needed because the ordering provider prefers an authorization on file. One example is the request for home healthcare services.
