What is the difference between UC SHIP and Covered California?

UC SHIP is administered by the University of California campus system to provide its students low and comprehensive health coverage while Covered California is a federal-sponsored state program that provides affordable health coverage for California residents. Students may opt to enroll in UC SHIP or Covered California based on individual needs and circumstances. If students wish to waive with a Covered California plan, you must be sure that the plan meets the University’s minimum standards of benefit levels and submit a waiver application during the appropriate academic period.
