The Student Health Insurance Committee (SHIC), which is comprised of undergraduate students, graduate students and University administration, were able to negotiate the 2008-09 SHIP plan year, beginning with Fall 2008 terms. The following is a list of changes for 2008-09:

• For 2008-09 the SHIP premium has increased by 10.7-12.1 % for both graduates and undergraduates. The graduate students (GSHIP) annual rate is $1,338.00 for the entire package. The undergraduate students, USHIP Basic (does not include the Dental plan) the annual rate is $756.00. USHIP Plus buy up to include the Dental plan is an additional $172.42 per year. Enrollment for USHIP Plus must be completed during the enrollment period. It is an online process, logon to Online Services Category 2 to purchase USHIP Plus.
• An Urgent Care benefit has been added when the Ashe Center is closed.
• Colonoscopy, endoscopy, laryngoscopy and sleep study procedures will be subject to the deductible and co insurance.
• Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy benefits have been modified to a maximum benefit of $65.00 per visit; maximum payable to $3055.00 per academic year. The Ashe Center referral is required, subject to the deductible and co insurance.
• The dependent premium rate has increased due to high utilization. Plan changes have been made to keep the premium increase to a minimum. Specific information will be on our website soon. Dependents must reenroll every academic year. The deadlines are consistent with student registration/waiver deadlines. The enrollment is directly with United Healthcare. • The cost of the Gap plan has increased due to high utilization. The Gap enrollment is directly with United Healthcare. Student Resources. The Gap enrollment must be initiated through United Health Care/Student Resources 2 weeks prior to student SHIP termination.
