Hepatitis B Requirement Information

Students who are 18 years of age or younger are required, by California law, to show proof of immunity to Hepatitis B before enrolling at a UC school, i.e. before September 20 for UCLA. Compliance with the requirement requires entering information on-line at the website below. It is important that if you are meeting this requirement by having the vaccine series, but you have not yet started the series, that you START IMMEDIATELY. The Hepatitis vaccine is given in 3 doses over 6 months. You must start now to meet the compliance deadline. “Immunity” is achieved either through the Hepatitis B vaccine, or because one has been exposed to the disease.

There are several ways to meet this requirement. They are:

  • Provide proof of having received the 3 dose Hepatitis B vaccine.
  • Provide proof of immunity through a blood test called an Antibody Titer for Hepatitis B. (This is a test that measures antibodies in your system if you have had hepatitis b in the past, or have lost your vaccine records.)
  • Provide proof of a medical condition that contra-indicates your getting the Hepatitis B vaccine.
  • Provide a statement of "non-belief" in vaccines.

After you have submitted your Intent to Register (SIR), and wish to begin the compliance process:

  • Click on the link below and login
  • Answer the questions and submit the form. (You will be given a confirmation number on line to indicate you have successfully submitted the information.)
  • If you are just beginning to take the vaccine series and are submitting information, there is a question to indicate you are in process. You will enter your current compliance status, e.g. have received one/two vaccine(s). When you have completed the series, you will return to the web page to finish your compliance.
  • Send questions to SHSSHEPB@ASHE.UCLA.EDU.
